Anyone selling a course will tell you theirs is the best online radiology course in India. The honest answer is that “best” is not a property of a course; it is a relationship between a course and a particular resident’s stage, examination and gaps. A first-year resident who needs anatomy and physics foundations, a final-year candidate twelve weeks from the practical, and a young consultant sharpening MSK reporting are not looking for the same product, and a course excellent for one may be poor value for another.
So the useful question is not “which course is best” but “which criteria matter, and how does each option score against them for me”. This article gives you that method. It names no competitors and ranks nothing; it arms you to do the ranking yourself.
Start with your stage, objective and gaps
Before opening a single sales page, write three lines: your year and examination timeline; your single most important objective for the next six months; and your two or three biggest gaps, judged honestly from recent performance rather than mood. Every criterion below is weighted by these three lines. A course rich in final-exam mocks is mis-bought by a first-year; a foundations course is mis-bought twelve weeks before finals.
A content library is not a learning system
The most important distinction in this market is between platforms that give you material and platforms that give you a method. A content library offers volume: recorded lectures, question banks, image archives. A learning system adds sequence (what to do in which order for your stage), practice in the formats you will be tested in, feedback or correction of some kind, and a way to track progress. Libraries are not worthless; disciplined residents extract value from them. But most residents drowning in residency need structure more than they need additional volume, and structure is what you should scrutinise hardest before paying.

Look for named faculty with verifiable academic positions, teaching history and, for exam-focused courses, examiner or long-term exam-teaching experience. Be cautious where faculty are anonymous, described only by initials, or where “expert faculty” is claimed without names. Sample a full free lecture, not a trailer, and judge whether the teaching explains reasoning or reads slides.
Curriculum structure
A serious course publishes its syllabus: topics, sequence, and how the parts map to residency years or examination components. Vague module names with no visible contents are a warning sign. Check whether the structure matches your stage, whether it distinguishes first exposure from revision, and whether anything tells you what to do first.
Theory and practical balance
MD and DNB assessment is roughly half performance: cases, spotters, viva and OSCEs. A course that is entirely recorded theory lectures prepares you for at most half the examination. Look for the practical components explicitly: spotter sets (ideally timed), case discussions, viva-format material and OSCE practice, and check whether they are genuinely present or a menu heading.
DICOM and interactive case availability
Interpretation skills are built on full studies. Check whether the platform offers scrollable DICOM cases with viewer tools, or only static images and screenshots. Static material has legitimate uses, but if a platform claims to teach interpretation and reporting, ask to see one complete interactive case before believing it.
Reporting practice
Reporting is the job, and it is the least-taught skill online. Look for structured reporting exercises: cases you report yourself with model reports for comparison, reporting templates, or reporting-focused teaching. A platform with none of these is a lecture platform, whatever its positioning.
Viva, spotter and OSCE preparation
For exam-focused purchases, confirm the exam formats are practised in exam conditions: timed spotters, viva-pattern questioning, OSCE stations. Ask how much of this material exists, how often it is refreshed, and whether any of it is live or interactive rather than recorded.
Feedback and mentorship
The difference between watching and learning is correction. Does anyone ever look at your work: your answers, your reports, your case presentations? Options range from doubt-support channels to structured small-group mentorship. Understand exactly what human interaction is included, with whom, at what frequency, and whether it survives after the sales conversation ends.
Platform usability and mobile access
Residents study in gaps: between cases, on commutes, on nights. Test the platform on your own phone during a trial or demo. Check playback quality on hospital internet, whether images are legible on a small screen, and whether progress syncs across devices. A course you cannot comfortably use at 11 pm in the duty room will not be used.
Course duration and access period
Match access to your timeline. Confirm the exact access period, what happens at expiry, whether extensions exist and at what cost, and whether access covers your examination date with margin. For multi-year programmes, confirm whether content for later years is included or sold separately.
Content-update policy
Radiology moves: classifications change, guidance updates, exam patterns shift. Ask when the content was last updated and how updates reach existing subscribers. A library recorded once and resold for years drifts steadily away from your examination.
Transparent pricing and inclusions
You should be able to learn the full price, what exactly is included, the refund policy and any auto-renewal terms before a sales call. Treat hidden pricing, artificial countdown pressure and “call for price” funnels as information about the vendor. Discounts are legitimate; opacity is a choice.
Questions to ask before enrolling
- Who teaches each module, by name, and what are their academic credentials?
- Can I see the complete syllabus and one full sample lecture and one full sample case?
- What practical material exists: how many spotters, cases, OSCEs, and are they timed?
- Does anyone review my work, and how often?
- What exactly does the price include, for how long, and what is the refund policy?
- When was the content last updated?
- Is there a trial, and can I test it on my own phone?
A vendor uncomfortable with these questions has answered them.
